White Sand Communications

As the owner of White Sand Communications, I provide copywriting and marketing communications services. For my small business, I rely on e-mail completely. Its the main way clients send me jobs (project briefs and reference materials in various file formats, including large PDFs). And its how I send jobs back to them. In fact, a day without access to e-mail is a day that I'm closed for business.
When I began travelling throughout Canada and the United States, I needed a way to continue working that would be transparent to my clients. My logistical problem was that I would not always have access to a landline phone connection. Because I already relied on Rogers Wireless for voice communications, I looked to them for help. My needs list included not only access to e-mail messages, but most importantly, attachments and a reliable way to transmit work back to clients.
The Sony Ericsson EDGE PC card was the perfect solution for me. I just loaded some software onto my laptop, inserted the card and connected to the Internet and my e-mail in no time at all. Whats great about the EDGE card is that its amazingly fast to download attachments. In fact, I can use my laptop applications completely, including sending/receiving e-mail and attachments in Word, Excel and Powerpoint and I can access the Internet to view my clients Websites or to perform research for my assignments. And I've experienced very reliable connections in Canada and the U.S.
Just recently, the EDGE card worked for me in a unique way. My laptop computer was hit by the Sasser Internet worm and it corrupted my landline access to the Internet and e-mail. To fix this I needed to go to the Microsoft site and download a patch. But the worm would shut down my computer every time I tried to make a landline Internet connection. So I gave my EDGE card a try and it connected me! It allowed me to download the Sasser patch and fix my computer. My EDGE card really saved the day for me. I was able to keep working while other businesses experienced downtime as a result of the worm.
